Lockstitch

Pull the thread through. This results in a stitch.

French Knot

DSC09133.jpg

Go through the yarn to the front of the piece and pull the yarn through.

Start by placing the yarn over the tip of the needle ...

... and wrap it around as many times as you like. The more wraps, the larger the knot will be.

Secure the wraps with your finger.

Insert the tip of the needle directly next to the stitching point again. Make sure that the wraps continue to lie nicely against the needle.

Thread through to the WS. Pull the thread tight so that the loops all close.

This results in a little knot.

Back Stitch

DSC09144.jpg

Start with your template. I am using a stabilizer here.

DSC09145.jpg

Stitch through from the back to the front at the point where you want your stitch to end on the left side.

Here this is about 2 mm | 1/16" to the left of the tip of the moon.

Then go through to the back to the right of your stitch at the point where you want your stitch to end.

Here this is the tip of the moon.

Then come back to the front to the left side of your stitch by the same stitch length as before.

DSC09148.jpg

Go back through the same exit point of the previous stitch.

Repeat the last two steps until you have completed your line. Make sure that the stitch length is even.
